Back in Sussex, we’ll continue our training with the Yoga anatomy module on Saturday then we will make Mala beads with our delightful meditation teacher, meditate and practice together, you’ll receive your course manual and journal.
Module one is a time to explore the course content, continue or begin your regular self-practice and create time for reflection. You’ll be given home practices to do and library membership.
Throughout the first 2 months we will explore the key aspects of instructing yoga as a craft with a creative and scientific approach, we live and work as post-lineage yoga teachers which means we have trained and learnt from a variety of well respected teachers, and philosophers, anatomy experts, therapists, and healers.
The second part of the 200 hours is the practical aspect of teaching, applied learning and lots of opportunities to refine your skills as an instructor. Our lead trainer Bryony has trained hundreds of yoga teachers who now teach yoga all over Sussex and the UK as well as internationally at retreat centres around the world, this is a very practical course with lots of 1-2-1 attention from all the tutors, we keep the group small so that you get the support you need to feel confident in your skin.
Every weekend includes both a mindful flow practice and a Yin or Restorative practice, you will be given home practice sequences to learn in between the modules. Some people love chanting, some have never done it and feel shy, we include chanting with lots of knowledge about why it can be so uplifting and fun, chanting and singing bring people together in a very special way creating a felt sense of unity. If you’ve never done it before, don’t worry you won’t be made to do a solo!
During the first 1 -2 modules we cover anatomy and physiology in depth, we feel that it’s essential for any training instructing movement to have a firm grounding knowledge in anatomy and physiology.
We are also interested in functional anatomy, how and why the body moves in different ways, the relationship between muscles, tendons, heart and brain and how your amazing body heals itself. Inclusive and accessible yoga is very important to us, our experience includes work with all ages and different physical abilities.
You’ll also learn how to adapt your teaching to include students with the most common injuries and conditions you will encounter when you start to teach, the more people practice yoga the more important it is that we know how to adapt our instruction to include everyone safely in the class.
An experienced yoga therapist and a physiotherapist, your anatomy teachers have decades of experience to share about how incredible the human body is.
Yoga practice includes the subtle body, the movement of energy around the body, we include an introduction to the endocrine system, cardiovascular and nervous systems as well as the enteric nervous system.
Subtle energy is how we feel, we are fascinated by the links between posture and mood, between brain, heart and gut, we believe it’s helpful to have an understanding of the many varied and elegant ways the body adapts to growth and change, we also look at the effects of stress and trauma in the body.
History Herstory Philosophy
Yoga philosophy is fascinating and so relevant to todays world, we have the brilliant Matthew Clark with us once again to entertain with his extensive knowledge on the history of yoga, an associate professor at SOAS and a published author, Matthew brings the teachings to life for you. Emma Newlyn has been co teaching at the Academy since 2016, a writer, therapist, musician and Ayurveda teacher, Emma has hundreds of articles published online, her speciality is relating the many esoteric and cosmic ideas into real life, modern living philosophy as a way to bring yoga ‘off the mat’
How to sequence, structure & Flow
Clever informed and skilful sequencing is our passion . Be-Yoga founder Bryony, an experienced yoga therapist and senior yoga teacher has created dozens of delicious yoga sequences which she shares on this course. With respect for the roots and evolution of vinyasa flow, Bryony’s teaching is informed with the latest research and knowledge of the mind body connection, our training gives you the structure for 3 flow, one Yin and one Restorative sequence while giving you the tools to elaborate and create your own flow.
